Awdur: Prydwen Elfed-Owens

Tudalen: 232

Mae Croesi’r Ffin: wynebu angau law yn llaw gan Prydwen Elfed-Owens yn llyfr gonest, ymarferol a chynnes am un o’r pynciau rydym yn aml yn ei osgoi: marwolaeth. Mae’n tyfu allan o brofiad personol yr awdur o ofalu am ei gŵr, Tom, wrth iddo heneiddio, byw gyda dementia, dirywio’n gorfforol ac, yn y pen draw, farw. Ond nid cofiant personol yn unig mohono. Drwy gyfuno’r profiad hwnnw â lleisiau tua deugain o gyfranwyr — meddygon, gofalwyr, gweithwyr hosbis, gweinidogion, ymgymerwyr, cwnselwyr ac eraill — mae’r gyfrol yn cynnig arweiniad ar gyfer y daith o sylweddoli bod iechyd rhywun yn dirywio, drwy baratoi a ffarwelio, hyd at alaru a chofio.

Llyfr i bwy yw hwn? I unrhyw un sy’n wynebu henaint neu salwch difrifol; i deulu sy’n gofalu am rywun annwyl; i rywun sydd wedi cael profedigaeth; ac i weithwyr proffesiynol neu fugeiliaid sy’n cerdded ochr yn ochr â phobl ar ddiwedd oes. Ond, mewn gwirionedd, mae’n llyfr i bob un ohonom, oherwydd mae marwolaeth yn rhan anochel o fywyd. Mae Prydwen yn awyddus i’r llyfr gael ei ddefnyddio mewn sawl ffordd: i’w ddarllen o glawr i glawr neu i droi at gyfraniadau penodol, ac fel sbardun i sgwrsio mewn teuluoedd, cymdeithasau, eglwysi, clybiau darllen ac ysgolion.

Ei gryfder mawr yw ei fod yn ymarferol yn ogystal ag yn bersonol. Mae’n trafod materion fel safon gofal, paratoi ymlaen llaw, Grym Atwrniaeth Parhaol Iechyd a Lles ac Ewyllys Byw, ond hefyd y pethau llai mesuradwy: sut i fod yn bresennol, sut i wrando, sut i gadw urddas rhywun, sut i ffarwelio, a sut i fyw drwy alar. Un o negeseuon symlaf a chryfaf y gyfrol yw bod “bod yn bresennol yn bwysicach na bod yn berffaith.”

Dyna hefyd sy’n gwneud y llyfr mor amserol. Mewn cymdeithas sy’n aml yn cadw marwolaeth o’r golwg ac sy’n rhoi llai o gyfleoedd inni siarad wyneb yn wyneb am bethau anodd, mae’r gyfrol yn ein hannog i ddechrau’r sgyrsiau hynny cyn i argyfwng ein gorfodi i wneud. Mae llinyn Cristnogol amlwg yn rhedeg drwyddi hefyd: gweddi, ffydd, yr Ysgrythur a gobaith yn cynnig cysur wrth wynebu’r hyn sydd o’n blaenau.

Yn y pen draw, fel y dywed yr awdur ei hun, nid llyfr am farwolaeth yn unig yw Croesi’r Ffin, ond llyfr am wynebu marwolaeth er mwyn ein galluogi i fyw bywyd yn llawn.
